A Stevenage charity that helps people who suffer from addiction has received a grant from a local county councillor to help fund their new treatment room.

County Councillor Robin Parker (Chells) has allocated £1,000 from his locality budget to the Living Room at The Glebe in Chells Way as a contribution to the set-up costs and rental of the new treatment room.

The Living Room provides treatment for people who are affected by addictions such as alcohol, eating disorders and relationship difficulties. They also offer daily support sessions, to help family members in Stevenage and the surrounding areas.

Cllr Parker said:

The Living Room is doing wonderful work in the local area to help addiction sufferers and their families, providing invaluable professional support for those who need it. This is a very worthy cause and I was very pleased to be able to contribute towards the cost of their new treatment room.

Locality budgets were launched in July 2009, with funding to be used for worthy social, economic or environmental causes in Hertfordshire. For information on how to apply for funding under the scheme, visit www.hertsdirect.org and type ‘locality budgets’ into the search box.
