Sixteen members of the Stevenage Volunteer Police Cadets participated in a team exercise in Snowdonia thanks to funding from a local county councillor.
A payment of £500 was given to the group, which involves 14 to 18 year olds from the Stevenage area, by County Councillor Robin Parker (Chells) from his locality budget.
Cllr Parker commented:
Expeditions like this help young people gain confidence and self-esteem. I’m glad to be able to support a group that is committed to helping our community and whose members aspire to joining the police or another form of public service.
Locality budgets were launched in July 2009, with funding to be used for worthy social, economic or environmental causes in Hertfordshire. A total of £10,000 is available to each of the 77 members of Hertfordshire County Council to spend on worthwhile community projects in their area. For information on how to apply for funding under the scheme, visit www.hertsdirect.org and type ‘locality budgets’ into the search box.
