This message from Hertfordshire Chief Constable Andy Bliss:

I have been on the streets of Hertfordshire, talking to local residents and shopkeepers and have seen at first hand the excellent work that is being done by Hertfordshire Constabulary Officers, PCSOs, Staff and Specials.

Hertfordshire has not seen widespread criminal disorder as experienced elsewhere in the country and our enhanced Safer Neighbourhood Teams are working across the county and any signs of trouble have been countered straight away.

We saw some small groups of young people gathering in Watford and St Albans last night and these were quickly dispersed.

Three separate incidents of vehicle damage by fire happened in an area of Stevenage but it was not linked to any disorder.

There continues to be inaccurate reports on social media of trouble in the county. We have investigated these and nearly all proved to be false.

We are working closely with partners and have well developed plans and more than adequate resources in place to exercise robust and effective policing if required. In addition we have sufficient Officers in Hertfordshire to maintain normal day to day policing.

The encouragement and support expressed by the community has been tremendous and I know the officers and staff on patrol have really appreciated this.

Thank you for your continuing support.
