Some good news as the cold weather sets in – threatened winter gritting routes in Herts have been saved!…for now.
This morning Liberal Democrats presented a 600+ signature petition to the County Council, calling on the Conservatives – who have a huge majority at County Hall – to rethink their plans to cut winter gritting on over 600 roads in the county.
Many roads in the county faced being axed from the precautionary winter gritting programme, including some roads used to access schools.
However less than 24 hours before the debate, on 1st December, it came to light that the gritting cuts would be deferred for a year due to problems agreeing the routes.
While this is clearly good news for the time being, Liberal Democrats will continue lobbying the County Council to scrap their planned gritting cuts for good.
Well done to the Lib Dem team for standing up for residents!
